2018 HK Joint University Alumni (Ontario) Association Table Tennis Tournament

On Oct 14, 2018, the 9 Hong Kong universities alumni associations hosted a table tennis tourney of mixed teams at CCTTA and a dinner after at Casa Victoria. All Wahyanites players who participated won individual trophies and team honours:

  • Mike Yam – Premier individual men’s single 3rd
  • Chris Tam /Steve Fung – Premier men’s double 3rd
  • Allan Lee – Premier men’s double champ (partnering Wilson Chan)
  • Bill Ip – Premier mixed double champ (partnering Sandie Chu -wife of Sidney Chu)

The White team (Chris, Steve, Allan & Bill) further captured the overall championship. Visiting Cl. 68 Joseph Liu (HKU alumni who came to WYK Aug 1968), wife Ada (CU alumni) and Wilfred attended the banquet. Click here to see more pictures from the tourney and banquet.

Charity Table Tennis Tournament

Team WYKAAO played some very respectable matches in the New Horizon Lions Club Charity Table Tennis Tournament on Sunday May 27 at My Table Tennis Club. Our team came second in group round robins, lost in the quarter final to the number one seeded team (that went on to capture the first runner-up of the tournament in Community Category). Salute to the team members for their great effort!

香港隊本月底出戰世界團體錦標賽 以獎牌為目標

「2018世界乒乓球團體錦標賽」將於本月底在瑞典哈姆斯塔德展開，正進行最後階段備戰的香港代表隊今日（11日）會見傳媒。今年2月袋走世界盃團體銅牌的香港女隊，期望於世錦賽再下一城，以獎牌為目標。

世界乒乓團體賽共24支球隊參賽，將分成4組進行小組賽，每隊每場將派出3位隊員出戰共5場單打賽事，每組首名直接晉級8強，次名及第三名需進行16強淘汰賽爭出線。香港男子隊的最佳成績為2008年取得季軍，女子隊的最佳成績則為2004、2006年奪得亞軍。

香港女隊今年被編於D組，將與韓國、德國、泰國、巴西及盧森堡同組爭奪出線資格。對比起兩年前的上屆賽事，香港女子隊陣容轉變不少，經驗豐富的帖雅娜及姜華珺未有參賽下，將由李皓晴、杜凱琹及吳穎嵐等擔大旗，夥拍蘇慧音及麥子詠出戰。 Continue reading →
