With hard fought matches against various teams in a day-long table tennis tournament organized by Hong Kong Inter-School Alumni Associations (HKISAA), Team WYKAAO is the second runner-up out of 16 teams. “Congrats to Mike, Alan, David, Michael, Bill & Steve for a gussy run in this tough tourney.
The new tourney format favours teams with a big pool of young talents playing with different styles and therefore able to withstand 10+ hours of long battle in a best of 7 (instead of previous best of 5). We can see senior player’s energy and focus waning in a long play off going well into the evening.
We saw more 2,000 points younger players being added to other teams and more & more pips, making team rotation more challenging at game time.
With our core players all getting more senior, our Cl. of 77 (Chris, Bill, Steve) and Jeff will continue to improve, to pick up the baton for WYKAAO to remain as contenders in future. Steve and Bill played some exciting double games during round robin , in this tourney.
Vinnie shot some amazing video that captured the most important moments including our Captain Mike defeating SJC Thomas in single and teamed up with Alan to defeat their Thomas/Marcos to emerged as winner in a 4-2 Quarter Final. Well done Vinnie and thank you !
Highlights of this tourney includes: Heavily favored King’s College (with two 2,000 point players Jacky & Tony) losing their S/F in 3-4 to 蘇浙公校 , on the last “sudden death” single (7 points only); new entry St Joseph A.C School with David Lau , Jeff Wong and US import Joseph Yick bowing out to New Method with addition of younger players and last year finalist (and perennial contender) losing in all their Round Robin matches and have to be contended with a Consolation final win over Ying Wah College.
